The two persons were sentenced following a trial in flagrante delicto.

Three men appeared before the bar.

They include Jean de Dieu Iradukunda, Mathias Ntunzwenimana and Rémy Ndayikengurukiye. The first was acquitted. Only one judge had sat in this case. The public prosecutor had requested the same sentence as well as the confiscation of the entire quantity of fuel seized.

In addition to the six months of imprisonment, Mathias Ntunzwenimana and Rémy Ndayikengurukiye will also have to pay a fine of one million Burundi francs each.

Jean de Dieu Iradukunda was acquitted. It turned out that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time because the man lives in Uganda. He had gone to Burundi to renew his passport.

The two men convicted by the Rumonge Court work for a certain Juvénal Nsabimana, known by the nickname of Bayote. This trader close to the CNDD-FDD, the ruling party and his brother remain wanted by the courts, the prosecution announced.

The fuel and empty cans that were seized from the two brothers’ stocks will have to be auctioned. The money from this sale will be paid into the public treasury.
