Jacques Butoyi, 74, lived in zone 15, village 12 at number 2. He had gone to his field not far from the camp in a Tanzanian village. His body was discovered last Sunday.

« His body was found lying in the part formerly known as zone 16 of the Nduta camp before it was closed. He was stuck in a small savannah,” confided one of the witnesses of the macabre discovery.

His family initially believed that he had been strangled while he was in his field last Friday.

However, the police had testimonies from people who were plowing their fields not far from the deceased’s property.

“They said they saw him sit and lie down easily where he was found dead. They thought that maybe he was tired, that he was resting a little before continuing his tour in the field. He even had a small hoe,” they said, implying that “no one touched him or approached him to find out what was happening.”

When his body was found, his family called the police to conduct in-depth investigations.

And these after autopsy revealed that he had “a serious chronic illness,” and that it was not “a criminal act.”

No one has been arrested. And the police reassure the family in particular and all refugees in general.

The Nduta camp is home to more than 58,000 Burundian refugees.
