The events took place on the night of Friday to Saturday.

The police officer known as « De corps » was caught with 20 cans of petrol that he was filling at a gas station in the chief town of Rugombo.

According to information received on site, this police officer, with the managers of this station, in collusion with the communal commissioner, used to regularly steal fuel.

The same information indicates that these PNB (Burundi National Police) officers went to the said service station each time, pretending to provide security when the pump attendants had gone home.

A security source who requested anonymity said that « the two police officers took several cans filled with fuel that they resold on the black market at an exorbitant price ».

This police officer who has already been arrested is currently in the National Intelligence Service cell.

Residents contacted speak of an act that tarnishes the image of the police and demand both severe sanctions in accordance with the law and the arrest of the mastermind of the theft operation, namely the communal police commissioner in Rugombo.

The provincial commissioner in Cibitoke indicates that when the time comes, if justice wishes to hear this police officer, he will answer.

However, he did not comment on the arrest of the police officer caught red-handed.
