Claver Bampamirubusa and his friends Gasindi, Daniel and Minani, all CNL party activists, were beaten up and robbed of their money by the village secretary of the ruling party, Jean Bosco Ciza, last Saturday.
They were taking drinks at a neighbor’s house when the leader of the Imbonerakure (members of the CNDD-FDD youth league) in this village came to threaten them before calling Jean Bosco Ciza.
The two CNDD-FDD activists began to beat them up, arguing that « inhabitants of this village no longer respect them following the teachings of the CNL leaders in the locality ».
After seriously beating them up, they took from them a sum of 40,000 francs that they had on them and a notebook used for recording contributions from members of a community association.
The 4 CNL activists then filed a complaint with the Butezi village chief, but until this Wednesday, he has not returned the stolen money or the notebook.
CNL leaders denounce « political intolerance that has continued to characterize CNDD-FDD activists in recent days and this with total impunity ».
They ask administration authorities to protect all residents regardless of their political affiliation.
