Rumonge : nearly 130 health agents demand arrears of 3 to 10 months of salary
Employees under contract in five new health centers located in the districts of Rumonge, Burambi and Buyengero are demanding 10 months of salary. Staff under contract in the two former health centers of Bitare, Minago zone and Birimba, in the Rumonge zone, in Rumonge district and province (southwest Burundi) have spent a total of 6 months without salary. Medical sources in the Amahoro hospital say that the problem of salary arrears also affects contracted employees of the Amahoro hospitals in Birimba in the town of Rumonge. All are demanding to be regularized

These employees are outraged by the fact that they do not receive their salaries even though they continue to bring revenue into these health care structures.
Some say they can no longer cope with the soaring prices of basic necessities, without any means of subsistence.
They demand that the question relating to their salary be resolved as quickly as possible.
They believe that their right to salary is violated by the Anglican Church of Rumonge, the main employer and manager of these hospitals and health centers.
Medical sources in Rumonge report that hospitals under agreement face the difficulty of having funds for their operation.
These hospitals are claiming several million unpaid bills from the Ministry of Health following the non-reimbursement of costs for care given to users of health insurance cards, children under 5 years old and pregnant women.
The same sources indicate that the delay in payment of these funds has serious consequences on private and contract hospitals which collaborate with the Ministry of Health to implement these two government policies.
It is this situation which, according to these sources, explains why certain hospitals are unable to pay salaries of their employees.
It should be noted that, on the other hand, staff under the civil service status working in these hospitals and health centers under Anglican agreement continue to receive their salaries without any problem. Their salaries are paid by the government.
