Kayogoro : 4 people detained in a defetishism case
Three men and a woman have been detained in the cells of the Makamba provincial prosecutor’s office (southern Burundi) since Thursday. They were transferred there after having stayed for 7 days in the cell of the Kayogoro district police station. One inmate was released. The concerned persons are prosecuted in a defetishism case.

Elias Minani, Salvator Ndagusaba known by the nickname Kuvunagura, Pascasie Nintunze and a certain Clovis have been detained at the Makamba public prosecutor’s office since Thursday. The detainees come from the same village of Sampeke, in the district of Kayogoro in the province of Makamba. It is the district police commissioner in collaboration with Pierre Simon Nyabenda, district administrator of Kayogoro who organized the operation.
According to residents, several other people targeted by the operation were able to escape. The people in detention are prosecuted in a defetishism case.
Two other people who had been arrested in this case were released. He is a local representative of the main opposition political party, CNL, and an activist of the CNDD-FDD. The first was released on July 12 when the police arrested the five individuals while the second was released on Thursday, during the transfer of the detainees to the provincial prosecutor’s cell. The case dates back to January this year. Several people have since been arrested and sent to Murembwe central prison in Rumonge province (southwest Burundi). They were accused by provincial authorities of “rebellion against the authority”.
Sampeke village is the birthplace of Révérien Ndikuriyo, secretary general of the CNDD-FDD, the ruling party.
