Mitakataka: the FRODEBU party’s office allegedly defiled by the Imbonerakure

Sahwanya FRODEBU party’s activists in the Mitakataka zone in Bubanza commune and province (western Burundi) denounce what they describe as acts of political intolerance.
The party’s permanence has been sullied by individuals residents and party members suspect to be the Imbonerakure (members of the youth league of the presidential party).
Other opposition parties including the UPRONA speak of an act “of another era”.

On the night of July 6, the party colors painted on the walls of its office were erased and replaced by black.
Young people from the CNDD-FDD party are singled out by FRODEBU activists.

« Four young people from the ruling party were involved. We know two of them who were leaders: Désiré, representing this party in the Mitakataka zone and Jules, leader of the Imbonerakure in this zone », specify activists from the FRODEBU party.

This version is supported by local residents.

“We saw with our own eyes these ruling party activists commit this shameful act but we were afraid to denounce them. They are capable of anything. They can kill us if they learn that we reported them,” they disclosed to SOS Médias Burundi.

However, members of the CNDD-FDD denied the facts.

This “beginning of political intolerance” worries other opposition political groups in this province.

The UPRONA party, for example, speaks of an act from a bygone era.
For its part, RANAC compares this to an illness that must be treated at all costs, while members of the former CNL party who remained loyal to Agathon Rwasa no longer find words to describe this incident.
They ask the administration to manage this situation well, in collaboration with representatives of political parties, for the smooth running of the campaign and the legislative elections of 2025.

« Whether it snows or winds, we are not going to let the only party in power go to the elections. We see that this is a way of intimidating other political parties which are on the ground,” said members of the party of Ndadaye, the first Hutu to be elected head of state in 1993 before his assassination on October 21 this year, three months after his accession to power.
