Bujumbura : the Constitutional Court has deemed opponents’ complaints admissible but has given them a very limited deadline to correct irregularities

The Constitutional Court of Burundi has accepted the complaints of the only political coalition of the opposition « Burundi Bwa Bose » and the CNL party. But they will have to rearrange their lists of candidates for legislative elections scheduled for May. They have been given a deadline not exceeding three days. INFO SOS Médias Burundi

The decision of the Constitutional Court was made on January 7. It had been seized by the coalition « Burundi Bwa Bose » and the main opposition political party, CNL, on January 2, concerning the rejection of all candidacies for the legislative elections next May by the CENI, the Independent National Electoral Commission.

As of the notification of the Court’s decision on January 7, the opposition has three days to rearrange lists of candidates for the legislative elections.

The president of the CENI, Prosper Ntahorwamiye has already declared that the opponents will participate in the legislative elections as voters but not as competitors.

A spokesperson for the « Burundi Bwa Bose » coalition said he was satisfied with this decision of the Constitutional Court « which is final ».
