INFO SOS Médias Burundi
Dr Christophe Sahabo was taken back to the central prison of Ruyigi in eastern Burundi by Burundian intelligence.
« When he arrived, he was transferred back to his cell. That’s where he is even now, » a source at the central prison of Ruyigi told SOS Médias Burundi. In Burundi, penitentiary houses have dispensaries or infirmaries. But, despite his fragile state of health, the former DG of the most prestigious clinic in Burundi « Kira Hospital », was not admitted to this room.
« He will treat himself, he is a doctor. That’s what our authorities think, » joked a prisoner from Ruyigi.
Dr Christophe Sahabo had been dragged from his hospital bed at the Kamenge University Hospital in the northern commercial city of Bujumbura a few hours earlier.
« Dr. Christophe Sahabo was forcibly taken from his bed at Roi Khaled Hospital to be taken directly to Ruyigi while he was still on the serum drip and dying, on Thursday early afternoon, » lamented one of his legal advisors.
He was admitted there last Tuesday after a short appearance at the Muha Court in the south of Bujumbura, a hearing he was unable to attend due to health problems.
Mr. Sahabo’s lawyers and Burundian and foreign human rights defenders continue to denounce what they call the « instrumentalization of justice » in the Sahabo case.
