The case dates back to July 23.
Chantal Nzeyimana stabbed her partner known as Bosco Bigirimana (24 years old) with a kitchen knife.
In a trial on July 31 at the provincial court, the concerned person pleaded guilty.
« The court then sentenced her to 20 years of penal servitude and to pay 7 million in damages to the family of the deceased and the child they had together, » say residents of village 5 who followed the trial.
The two partners had been living together for two years. Chantal Nzeyimana, whose official husband is in prison, had never revealed to her victim the existence of the first relationship, according to residents. Bosco Bigirimana was originally from the province of Muramvya (center). He had settled in the west of the country in search of work. The father of the deceased had requested compensation costs of up to 10 million Burundi francs. He did not, however, complain about the judge’s decision, arguing that « nothing could replace my child », regretting that « my son had refused to listen to me when I advised him to abandon this relationship ».
